Why US Real Estate is One of the Best Investments
One of the main reasons I believe United States real estate continues to be one of the strongest investments you can make is the level of support it gets from the government.
Most mortgages are either directly backed by federal agencies or flow through government-sponsored entities like Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac—this secondary market is essentially underwritten by the U.S. government and has been a cornerstone of American housing for decades.
Right now, with affordability still tight, there’s a lot of discussion coming out of Washington about new ways to help buyers. For example, the administration is actively exploring a government-backed 50-year mortgage option that would spread payments out and lower monthly costs for many people. There are also ongoing conversations around creative products that could let homeowners keep more of their existing low rate when they move (details are still emerging on that one).
There are plenty of other factors, of course—limited supply, population growth, inflation hedge—but at the end of the day, I still believe owning quality U.S. real estate is one of the best long-term assets most people can have.
